With the number of high-resolution displays finally increasing in the PC market, Microsoft has updated Windows 8.1 to support these high-resolution displays. And while the operating system includes new tile sizes to accommodate more apps and links on the Start screen, Windows 8.1 also has a new feature called "Show more tiles."

How to show all apps on the Start screen instead of live tiles in Windows 8.1
This new "Show more tiles" feature only appears on high-resolution displays and allows users to add additional rows of tiles to the Windows 8.1 Start screen. However, the option also appears on the new small devices with resolutions of 1280 x 800 or similar. If you know your screen size, you'll know that's not exactly a high resolution, but apparently Microsoft takes into account the number of pixels per inch as well as the overall screen resolution to enable "Show more tiles."
I have an HP 2311x monitor with a screen resolution of 1920 × 1080 (1080p) and the feature is not enabled, but on the Acer Iconia W3 with a resolution of 1280 × 800 (720p) the option is there, just as an example.
You can check if Show more tiles is available on your Windows 8.1/RT device by going to the Start screen, entering the Settings menu, using the keyboard shortcut +i and clicking on Tiles. If Show more tiles is in the menu, you can increase the number of rows on the Start screen.
