Windows 10 Build 16193: Hands-on experience with Fluent Design, Cortana, Story Remix, Edge PDF and more
Microsoft's updated Windows 10 FAQs confirm that Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 will be released in September, bringing a number of improvements to the now-defunct operating system. As we all know by now, Windows 8.1 RT is not upgradable to Windows 10, but as we heard back in July, the software maker plans to release a smaller update that will add a subset of Windows 10 features to the operating system, including a new Start menu and lock screen improvements.
While there aren't many users currently using Windows RT, which is one of the reasons Microsoft stopped development, these are welcome changes that we expect to see sometime in September on devices like the Surface RT, Surface 2, and the Nokia Lumia 2520. The Windows 10 FAQ page states:
"If you're using Windows RT, your device will not be upgraded to Windows 10. An update will be available in September 2015 that will improve the Start menu and lock screen. Check Windows Update on your Windows RT device to make sure it's ready to download the update when it's available."
